23 June 2020

Today we have a really special guest with us. The one and only, founder of The Wedery, Luisa Maria Alvarez Venzal.

Luisa is a full service wedding planner based in the Mediterranean. Luisa dedicated more than 10 years of her life to the world of events. It only took one catering experience in the Mediterranean for her to say yes to the job. She enrolled in studies in Wedding consultancy in Madrid and San Antonio, Texas.. After all, these years and experiences have enabled her to meet the best suppliers in the industry in addition to the most emblematic of our Mediterranean places. And now she shares it with everyone alongside her peers in what we could say is her baby, The Wedery.

What better way to start this wedding series by asking the expert herself some questions in order to discuss how the company started, how the wedding planning process works and more.

We started with probably the most common question:

How did The Wedery come about?

We started with dalua, a catering company that works all over the Mediterranean coast. We worked with Spanish clients and started offering catering and property selection services, and became increasingly involved in the organisation of weddings, from the choice of suppliers such as photographers, make-up artists, hairdressers, decorators, and so on, to the management of a wedding, e.g. Coordinating the wedding day, organizing weekend excursions, finding hotels for guests.

From there onwards, we became responsible for dealing with customers, always with a sense of security and tranquility, which are two values that must be present in the whole process of building a wedding. Due to the immense experience we had with different suppliers from the mediterranean coast, we know exactly where to find the best of the best.

The Wedery however became part of a huge twist in our company when suddenly our foreign clients started to multiply. Many of these foreigners had a second home here in Spain and decided to get married abroad.

“Because of this growing demand I, Luisa M, decided to go to UK for a year to improve my English and contact british wedding planners in order to create a team. This is how The Wedery came about, due to the high number of foreign clients we had who were delighted with our weddings”. We adopted a new name, created new contacts in London and everything started growing from there.

What is the day-to-day life of a wedding planner like?

Honestly, it is a demanding day to day life. You are constantly answering doubts you have from clients, you are also giving out new ideas, from choosing furniture, tablecloths, floral arrangements, illumination like also contributing ideas to surprise other future couples, to relatives, contributing amusing surprises for the guests during the dinner. It is a constant back and forth conversation with your client.

What do you find most difficult when organizing a wedding? What is the most frequent problem you have encountered?

“There is nothing complicated, but if there is something very important is to connect with the couple. They have to trust you because you are the one guiding their dream”.

However if Luisa had to highlight the biggest “dilemma” it would be choosing the property and the venue, as “couples visit many beautiful properties and you can really only choose one!”.

What was the most complex event you had to organize and why?

After a silent pause Luisa said “Our most complex event was a wedding in Tabarca Island, and the main reason was due to the logistics”. As a full service wedding planner, transportation of all necessary material for the wedding is part of the job. In this case the transportation was done by boat, therefore there were many external aspects that had to be taken into consideration that was practically out of their control. Like the sea being calm, the risk of breakage, the flowers condition, the lighting, etc. “But once you know the skipper and his boat, you don’t have to worry anymore. He knows us and he understands that we transport very delicate material.” says Luisa.

The rest is a piece of cake!
